Recovery!!! We slept all day...nothing got done and winter is coming. (If you've read the Fire
& Ice series by George R.R. Martin you know what I'm talking about.) It's cold outside, the
shed needs a roof...that is missing. I could close the back door better but that is missing
too...the dog ate it (no seriously). The porch is falling down, the firewood needs chopping and
the hay is getting wet. BUT we won a couple of places at our first dog show. It's certainly
more than we expected considering Jila urinated in front of the judges, Nati Dog was so
scared of his first hog that he crawled on his belly out of the ring, Mo is ADD and T-Bone
sulked because we put a snow suit on him. But ya know...they looked damn good doing it!

Well, We've managed to make it through the last of the Renaissance Faires for our season
at least. Folsom was our last one and I can't emphasize what a relief it is to be done.
However, "done" typically means that I have many hours of sewing to do, washing tents,
repairing the used items for sale, making new....it's ongoing. And then there's the dogs,
goats, horses, poultry lol. The little things that keep us going because the cacophony outside
is brain curdling if we don't get out of bed to feed. One major accomplishment is that we have
collected at least 2 cords of wood and none of us will freeze this winter. There's also a few
UKC shows coming up that we may try to attend. That should prove interesting and it will be
good to see some familiar faces and others we've yet to meet. -M

The dog is trying to kill the cat. Jila has figured out that she can't eat it...because that's a
rule in our house and so she has plans to slowly starve it by eating it's food while we sleep.
Granted, we suspected she was the reason four full bowls of cat food were missing every
morning and of course, she's fat (and the cat looks great) but it never occurred to us the
extent she would go through to ensure the cat's demise. Tonight, while giving the cat a triscut
(it's a strange cat) Jila snatched the cracker out of Lonny's hand and put it in the bed...twice.
Jila hates triscuts. She sniffed the cat, as if to say it smelled like a cracker and therefore is
fair game but thought better of it...rules are rules after all. It's almost like a disney horror
movie. Sad for the cat but more than amusing to watch. On that note we would like to share
some artsy fartsy pictures from a gathering of creepy children I took on Halloween. Enjoy! -

Subject: Things That Go Boom
As many of you know Lonny and I are members of Clan MacColin, a Scottish/Irish historical
re-enactment group and battle pageants, military demonstration and historically acurate
weaponry are just a few of our duties, not to mention one of our many favorite pasttimes. So
on the 16th we got together with some fellow MacColin folk and some local friends to blow
things up in a very remote location in the desert. Among some of our arsenal, a 30/30, 2
shotguns, a 30/06, a glouck 9mm, a .177 pellet pistol, a 62 caliber naval sea service flintlock,
a matchlock rifle, a 2.25" morter, a 1.5" Swedish light Cannon on a field carriage and a
2.25" French Demiculvern Cannon. Needless to say we had a lot of fun and the even the
children learned a little something.
This was a live fire shoot so there was black powder, cannon balls and the Red Bull can filled
with marbles (yes we used that too). What did we get out of it? Well...a 2.5" ball with 4oz of
powder can go 3/4 of a mile in the blink of an eye and 1.25" bullet proof plexi glass does not
hold up well to a cannon shot but we won't be dragging one of these babies into a bank
anytime soon. We hope you enjoy the images. Mouse over the pictures to read the captions.

It's been a while since we've updated this thing but that is because our lives are kind of like
the desert wind...it moves in 70 mph gusts! Brownie had her Winter concert and sang her
very first solo in front of a large crowd. For those of you who didn't know, Brownie belongs to
the Honor Chorus at school and had done very well. We are so proud of her! On the
homefront we've been working as hard as the weather will allow. Our shed now has a roof
(finally!) and we are working on a small poulrty area so we will gain the maximum amount of
egg and chick production this Spring. We've also been spending a lot of time with our dogs
since the cold tends to turn us into suckers and let them in the house. Our Here are a few
pictures of our efforts.

There hasn't been much going on in the way of high excitement but we have made a few
small accomplishments that will benefit us in the long run. We acquired the coolest little
go-cart on Christmas Eve and finally got it running somewhat. Hadrian thinks this is the best
toy ever and has made it his personal project. On the other hand I taught myself how to
tablet weave in a night. It certainly wasn't pretty at first but eventually came out to be rather
incredible in the end. Lonny also took the time out this week to teach me how to make
targes, scottish shields, that we will be needing at faire this year. I find that I am enjoying the
nail work rather thoroughly so you can bet you'll be seeing more crafts like that in the future.
More pictures of woven straps and targes will eventually be placed on the Handcrafts page
along with photos of some lace projects I'm working on. Way too much fun for us not to share!
